Kickoff
Learn about the history of Tacoma’s civil rights movement through the Washington State History Museum’s exhibit and screening of the documentary “Transforming Tacoma: The Struggle for Civil Rights.” A panel discussion will follow the screening and includes Tacoma’s first African American Mayor Harold Moss, Tacoma Mayor Victoria Woodards and documentary filmmaker Sid Lee. Enjoy free access to all the museum’s exhibits and learn more about this year’s Pierce County READS selection.

Learn about the rich history of Africans and their journey to the Americas, the experience and impact of American Chattel Slavery, the Jim Crow Era and the many innovations made by African Americans in the areas of science, technology, engineering and math (STEM). Storytelling by Delbert Richardson at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. This exhibit displays sensitive topics.
